gandhiGandhi is an epic biographical motion picture based upon the remarkable life of Mahatma Gandhi – the 20th century leader of the Indian resistance movement against British colonial rule. Beginning with his death, the film retraces the pivotal moments in Gandhi’s life which led to the development of his nonviolent philosophy, his growth as one of history’s most respected leaders, and ultimately, independence for India. Of particular note is Ben Kingsley’s portrayal of Gandhi, whose calm, thoughtful and indomitable spirit is wonderfully captured in a most inspiring and captivating performance. Filmed on location in India with thousands of local extras, the scenes of the country and its people are both authentic and inspiring (Klaus Ming July 2011).
