Director: Robert Zemeckis; Cast: Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson
Back to the Future is a comical coming of age science fiction story about Marty McFly – a teenager with a temper for an Achilles Heel who travels thirty years back in time only to sabotage his own future by attracting the romantic interests of his teenaged mother. The film established Fox and his time travelling buddy as cultural icons. It also had a notable impact on popular culture through movie sequels, advertising and video games based on the hugely popular franchise. The film’s continued appeal lay not only in its comedic elements, particularly Christopher Lloyd’s bumbling character Doc Brown, but in an engaging screenplay and a kitschy nostalgic soundtrack (Klaus Ming January 2012).
Back to the Future has indeed embedded itself in culture worldwide. Local theaters have begun to screen it as a cult classic. People have bonded over this ’80s classic with creative, fun showings. A cult film club sponsored by Jameson in Ireland even had an undersea prom event themed around the movie: http://bit.ly/ACzEWO. These cultures around movies are often larger in big cities and in Europe. But where I live in America, people struggle with getting together around these cult films. In my blog I discuss ways for people to meet and watch these classic movies.
If you have any advice about how I can build a community around some of the great movies you review, please let me know!

Thanks for stopping by Harmony. It’s been years since I’d seen this film, and I had forgotten how much fun it really is.
I have the same problem where I live with getting to see these kinds of films. We have a University sponsored “film festival” which plays a dozen or so (usually foreign) films per year – but no place to see “cult classics”. Such a shame, as these films are best enjoyed in a theater with others.
