Dogtooth is a deeply disturbing and surreal family drama about a husband and wife who have kept their three children locked in their family compound ignorant of the world outside. Although one might consider this film as a black comedic cautionary tale against the dangers of home schooling, Dogtooth is better described as an absurd nightmare of domestic abuse that is too cruel to be funny. Simultaneously repellent and fascinating, Dogtooth is a disorienting and detached film that is infuriatingly well-made, yet seemingly devoid of purpose beyond provocation of its audience (Klaus Ming August 2013).
