The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)

USA 102m, Colour
Director: Michael Curtiz & William Keighley; Cast: Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Basil Rathbone, Claude Rains, Patric Knowles, Eugene Pallette, Alan Hale

adventures-of-robin-hoodRobin Hood was never so colourful as in this 1938 swashbuckling adventure! Errol Flynn plays the lead role in this simple story about Robin Hood and his very merry men. While Flynn and de Havilland would normally steal the spotlight in most movies they were to star in, the strong supporting cast provided one of the most entertaining and great looking tales of Robin Hood to be filmed. The dynamic camera movements, great editing, beautiful and brilliantly coloured wardrobe and detailed sets are visual very appealing, as is the original musical score which perfectly suits this action adventure classic (Klaus Ming February 2009).

Yes, this is Technicolor at its most dramatic. Robin Hood and particularly Will Scarlet have indeed never been this colorful nor as merry as here.

This is one of my favorite movies as a kid, and probably not nearly as good a movie as my review suggests – definitely a guilty pleasure kind of film for me.
