Raising Arizona (1987)

USA 94m, Colour
Directors: Joel Coen and Ethan Coen; Cast: Nicolas Cage, Holly Hunter, William Forsythe, John Goodman, Frances McDormand, Randall “Tex” Cobb

Raising-Arizona-1987Raising Arizona is filled with extraordinary characters, odd humor and interesting musical choices – all of which have since become hallmarks of the Coen Brothers films. The plot involves a small-time crook who kidnaps a baby for his newlywed wife, who also happens to be a policewoman that he has met via his numerous bookings at his local police station. The film’s quirky characters, and its offbeat style and clever dialogue more than make up for an otherwise thin plot (Klaus Ming July 2009).
