High Sierra (1941)

USA 100m, B&W
Director: Raoul Walsh; Cast: Ida Lupino, Humphrey Bogart, Alan Curtis, Arthur Kennedy

highsierraHigh Sierra is a relatively early American film noir. It stars Humphrey Bogart as veteran criminal Roy (Mad Dog) Earl who goes soft, against his better judgment, when he befriends a poor family and their young daughter who needs an expensive operation to fix her deformed foot. Despite his charitable ways, Roy is forced to run from the law after a poorly planned heist goes bad. High Sierra boasts an entertaining and story with some terrific 1940s cops and robbers dialogue that was made for Bogart’s persona (Klaus Ming August 2009).
