Up in the Air (2009)

USA 109m, Colour
Director: Jason Reitman; Cast: George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick

Up in the Air is an entertaining and thoughtful film which examines the pseudo-philosophical beliefs of Ryan Bingham, a “career transition counselor” and ultimate loner played by George Clooney, who spreads his nihilistic message to casual acquaintances and a professional lecture circuit. Faced with a radical re-organization of the way his own company plans to do business, and a chance meeting of a casual female acquaintance who shares his philosophy, Bingham is forced to re-examine his own priorities. Up in the Air is a well written and serious drama with some comedic elements which are nicely integrated through Clooney’s charismatic performance (Klaus Ming February 2010).
