This is Spinal Tap (1984)

USA 82m, Colour
Director: Rob Reiner; Cast: Rob Reiner, Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer

spinaltapFictionalized biographical films have been in existence since the beginning of film, and include some of cinema’s most acclaimed productions. It was, however, not until Marty DiBergi brought the misadventures of David St. Hubbins, Derek Smalls and Nigel Tufnel of the  “world’s loudest band” to the big screen, that the mockumentary was born. This is Spinal Tap is arguably the funniest and most culturally influential satirical biopics of all time. The film has since inspired a number of fictional documentaries, most notably, A Mighty Wind – in which McKean, Guest and Shearer are re-united as “The Folksmen”, and most recently, the under-appreciated Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (Klaus Ming March 2010).
