1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die: 5th Anniversary Edition (2008)

Editor: Stephen Jay Schneider; Publisher: Barron’s Educational Series, 960 pp., # ISBN-10: 0764161512

1001IndianaSchneider’s “1001 Movies” is a lavishly illustrated and beautifully produced encyclopedia of film which serves as a valuable resource for my novice exploration of cinema in this blog. In this regard, this compilation represents a good starting point for anyone with little to no knowledge of the history of film. While there is a strong emphasis on Hollywood productions, which may be geared to the average movie-goer who is looking for a little more than the local video store has to offer, it nevertheless, includes a decent smattering of foreign and lesser-known films which nicely serves to open new avenues for the beginner film enthusiast – myself included (Klaus Ming March 2010).
