In the Loop (2009)

UK 109m, Colour
Director: Armando Iannucci; Cast: Tom Hollander, James Gandolfini, Chris Addison, Peter Capaldi, Gina McKee, Steve Coogan, David Rasche

Based on a BBC Television series entitled The Thick of It, In the Loop is a very funny fictitious political satire which “documents” the relationship between the US and UK governments leading up to the Iraq war. Witnessed largely from the perspective of political aides and civil servants – the absurdity of politics, personal idiosyncrasies and national stereotypes are revealed through a witty and well-written screenplay and by a brilliant cast of talented actors. From a national perspective, the juxtaposition of stereotypical American and British cultures provides the basis for much of the humor – which is dry, witty and decidedly British in character (Klaus Ming April 2010).

This was a surprisingly hilarious film — I really want to see the series that its based on now.

That’s what I was thinking! And with the creator of the show as the director of the film, and with a number of the cast members from the film in the television show, it should prove to be pretty funny.
