O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)

USA, UK, France 106m, Colour
Directors: Joel & Ethan Coen; Cast: George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, John Goodman, Holly Hunter, Charles Durning

O Brother, Where Art Thou? is an adventure comedy that is loosely based on Homer’s Odyssey and which takes place during the Depression in rural America. This is certainly the funniest Cohen Brothers movie, as well as my personal favorite. The casting is brilliant, as are the performances, and in particular, the trio of chained travelers whose travel “home” is full of tight spots and hilarious events. Clooney’s Dapper Dan obsession and his penchant for colorful speech are only surpassed by the film’s wonderful folk and bluegrass soundtrack (Klaus Ming August 2010).
