Adaptation (2002)

USA 114m, Colour
Director: Spike Jonze; Cast: Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper, Cara Seymour, Tilda Swinton, Brian Cox

adaptationAdaptation is a very clever and funny drama about screenwriter Charlie Kaufman’s attempts to adapt a non-fiction book entitled “The Orchid Thief” by Susan Orlean – about her investigation of the arrest of John Laroche for poaching rare orchids from a State preserve. Instead of writing a screenplay about the book, he ends up writing about his difficulties in writing the screenplay which becomes the basis for this hugely self-referential film. Nicolas Cage skillfully plays both the screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, and his fictional twin-brother Donald, who become entangled in a hilarious world of romance, drugs and attempted murder (Klaus Ming August 2010).

    I need to revisit this.

Definitely worth a second look. A great and somewhat unexpected performance by Meryl Streep as well.

This is probably my favourite Nic Cage movie, he just excels in this.
