Team America: World Police (2004)

US 98m, Colour
Director: Trey Parker; Cast: Trey Parker, Matt Stone, Kristen Miller, Masasa, Daran Norris, Phil Hendrie, Maurice LaMarche

Best known for the South Park television series and feature length movie: Bigger, Longer and Uncut (1999), Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s Team America: World Police is a hilarious comedy which employs marionettes as action adventure heroes in the style of a big budget Jerry Bruckheimer production. As the self-proclaimed “world police”, Team America is presented as political satire of American domestic and foreign policy under George Bush and company, and their efforts toward safeguarding the world from terrorism. Although similar in look to Thunderbirds – the 1960s British television show, there are few other similarities in this explicit puppet show which lampoons everyone from world leaders to Hollywood celebrities (Klaus Ming April 2011)

Pretty much the definition of “uneven” (I think I’ve used that line before), but the best parts are beyond description. Nowhere near the South Park movie, which was amazing, but still hilarious. The songs are what I remember best.

Yeah, I agree, there are some incredibly funny bits and some longer less inspired scenes – which are not far off from an actual Bruckheimer production. And great songs as always.
