Snatch (2000)

UK104m, Colour
Director: Guy Ritchie; Cast: Jason Statham, Stephen Graham, Alan Ford, Dennis Farina, Brad Pitt, Vinnie Jones, Robbie Gee, Lennie James, Ade, Rade Šerbedžija, Benicio del Toro

Snatch is a fast-paced, intelligent and stylized crime film sporting an eccentric combination of characters that are entwined in a diamond heist and a series of fixed boxing matches. As in Ritchie’s other films, dark humor, chance happenings and absurd twists of fate are essential ingredients to the story. Snatch features Statham as a small time boxing promoter, Ford as the notorious “Brick Top” a ruthless old-time gangster with a penchant for pigs, and Pitt as the mumbling hilarious “one-punch” Mickey O’Neil who has problems throwing a fight. While very similar in look and style to Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), Ritchie’s earlier gangster film, Snatch is a more refined and polished production (Klaus Ming July 2011).
