Thelma and Louise is almost an extraordinary buddy/road movie whose central characters become entangled in an increasingly complex set of circumstances which results in their becoming fugitives in a cross-country car chase. Though the snowball effect of their actions is credible, and the elements of black comedy are fitting, the film’s often light-hearted moments, particularly as driven by the uneven soundtrack are ill-fit to what is otherwise a dramatic story. Even the darkest moments – the film’s tragic conclusion seems softened in an attempt to make the film more appealing to North American audiences and box office success (Klaus Ming January 2012).
