When Harry Met Sally is a witty romantic comedy about two acquaintances whose random encounters over a decade result in their friendship and more. Through the shared confidences which develop, their various relationships are explored throughout the film, while their own slow burning desire for one another builds just below the surface. As with the romantic comedies of Woody Allen, from which this film seems to be inspired, When Harry Met Sally relies heavily on dialogue, but unlike most of Allen’s work, is thin on plot. While this film may best be remembered for Meg Ryan’s fake climax scene, it is Billy Cyrstal’s restrained comedic performance which hold this film together (Klaus Ming February 2012).
