Star Trek: The Motion Picture was a monumental event for fans of the original television series on which this film was based. With only the Enterprise and its crew standing between a powerful alien entity and earth’s destruction, the plot is relatively simplistic for a feature-length film. Notwithstanding the surprisingly clever revelation of the entity’s earthly origins, the film is a slow-paced and self-indulgent production which spends an inordinate amount of time with its special effects, despite the fact that they are not as good compared to contemporary science fiction films. The production’s saving grace is the reuniting of the cast from the original television series – which set in motion the revitalization of the franchise (Klaus Ming December 2012).
