RoboCop (1987)

US 102m, Colour
Director: Paul Verhoeven; Cast: Peter Weller, Dan O’Herlihy, Kurtwood Smith, Nancy Allen, Miguel Ferrer, Ronny Cox

robocopAs the first of three films in the RoboCop series, Verhoeven’s original production is by far the most interesting. Set in a near dystopian future, law enforcement in the crime riddled City of Detroit has been given to a privately owned corporation whose sole motivation is profit. In developing a cyborg law enforcement officer, the top executives in the OCP Corporation got more than they bargained for, as RoboCop worked to expose the corruption within. Unexpectedly smart for an over-the-top action movie, RoboCop is a satire of violence and greed in American culture (Klaus Ming December 2012).
