Argo (2012)

US 120m, Colour
Director: Ben Affleck; Cast: Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Christopher Denham, Scoot McNairy, Kerry Bishé, Rory Cochrane, Victor Garber

argoArgo is a heart-pounding thriller based on the actual events surrounding the escape of six American diplomats who had been hidden by Ken Taylor in the Canadian Embassy during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. Disguised as a Canadian film crew the diplomats were safely led out of Iran by CIA agent Tony Mendez. Argo’s ability to build and maintain such incredible suspense in a story whose ending is widely known is nothing short of remarkable. Despite a number of historical inaccuracies, the film’s documentary look and feel is enhanced by natural and highly believable performances. A masterpiece of storytelling and one of the most remarkable spy thrillers of all time (Klaus Ming January 2013).
