Bernie (2011)

US 104m, Colour
Director: Richard Linklater; Cast: Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, Matthew McConaughey, Brady Coleman, Richard Robichaux, Rick Dial

bernieBernie is an unusual black comedy based on the true story of Bernie Tiede, an assistant funeral director in the Town of Carthage Texas who murdered a wealthy widow Marjorie Nugent who he had befriended after her husband’s death. Filmed largely in a documentary format, and employing many of the actual townsfolk of Carthage, Bernie is a tale that one would not believe, if it were not true. Despite confessing to the murder, many of Bernie’s friends and admirers were eager to forgive him for what he had done, while some even suggested that Nugent was such a spiteful and mean old woman, that Bernie was justified in his actions (Klaus Ming April 2013).

It’s a wonderful cast and a crazy, true-life story. Black really saved himself from doom here and charmed the hell out of me practically the whole time. Nice review Klaus.
