The World’s End (2013)

The World’s End (2013)
UK 109m, Colour
Director: Edgar Wright; Cast: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan, Rosamund Pike, Pierce Brosnan

worlds-endAs with Shaun of the Dead (2004) and Hot Fuzz (2007), The World’s End is a buddy movie, and though derivative of the previous two, surprisingly funny in its own right. Stuck in 1990, Gary King is an alcoholic looking to recreate his glory years by engaging four former buddies  who reluctantly join him on an ill-fated pub crawl that they had failed to complete in their youth. What begins as a dark comedic melodrama, soon turns into a post-apocalyptic science fiction fantasy replete an alien invasion which amusingly serves to frustrate Gary’s continuing obsession to have a drink at all twelve pubs (Klaus Ming August 2013).
