Looper (2012)

US 119m, Colour
Director: Rian Johnson; Cast: Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Noah Segan, Piper Perabo, Jeff Daniels

LooperLooper is an entertaining science fiction thriller set in the not-too-distant future in which about ten percent of the population have seemingly useless telekinetic abilities, and Loopers are well paid assassins who work for a future mob organization which sends their intended victims back in time to be executed. As the film’s protagonist, Joe knows that eventually he will have to face his future self, and “close his own loop”, fulfilling a deadly contract – though his future self has other plans. Unlike many time travel stories which tend to lose their way, Looper is a well-written film which smartly comes to a clever and satisfying conclusion (Klaus Ming October 2013).

I should see this. I’m a sucker for Bruce Willis in a smart movie. I’ve never seen any of the Die Hard movies, but from Pulp Fiction to Moonrise Kingdom he’s really delivered (Sixth Sense, The Fifth Elements, Twelve Monkeys, etc.)

Definitely worth a look. No real new ground here – but entertaining nevertheless.
