Blue Jasmine (2013)

US 98m, Colour
Director: Woody Allen; Cast: Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard, Michael Stuhlbarg

blue_jasmineTwo adopted sisters whose lives have gone in different directions are brought back together through shared misfortune. Once a wealthy and privileged New York socialite, Jasmine is forced to live with her working class sister while she attempts to work her way through school and maintain a regular job. Perpetually lamenting her lost life, Blanchett is outstanding as Jasmine, a delusional and narcissistic Blanche DuBois-like character who continually deceives herself in Allen’s dark comedic version of a Streetcar Named Desire (Klaus Ming February 2014).
