Tideland (2005)

UK/Canada 120m, Colour
Director: Terry Gilliam; Cast: Jodelle Ferland, Brendan Fletcher, Janet McTeer, Jennifer Tilly, Jeff Bridges

tidelandTideland is a dark fantasy set in rural Texas about the abandonment of a lonely young girl who becomes increasingly detached from reality after the death of her parents. In a marriage of Alice in Wonderland and Psycho (1960), Gilliam creates a visually stunning and highly disturbing film from the perspective of Jeliza-Rose, a nine-year old whose most trusted companions are a set of decapitated doll heads. Eventually befriended by a mentally challenged young man and his deranged older sister, Jeliza-Rose’s world descends into an increasingly macabre nightmare (Klaus Ming June 2014).
