Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)

US 131m, Colour
Director: Matt Reeves; Cast: Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee

dawn_planetA visually spectacular science fiction fantasy, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is an intelligent and entertaining sequel to the 2011 franchise reboot, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The film begins with an all too brief description of a near post-apocalyptic future in which a Simian virus has destroyed much of civilization, leaving only a few immune humans and a growing population of intelligent apes on the outskirts of what was once San Francisco. Though little was settled between apes and humans in this story, their increasingly violent encounters with one another, and with each other, demonstrated that they had more in common than they had thought possible (Klaus Ming July 2014).

It’s a very good summer blockbuster that not only has heart and emotion, but a whole bunch of excitement added to the proceedings as well. Good review Klaus.
