Breath of the Gods – A Journey to the Origins of Modern Yoga (2012)

Germany 105m, Colour/B&W
Director: Jan Schmidt-Garre; Featuring: B. K. S. Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois, T. K. Sribhashyam, T. Krishnamacharya

UntitledBreath of the Gods is a fascinating investigative style documentary about the origins of modern-day yoga. The film weaves historical footage with reconstructed “historical” demonstrations and enlightening interviews with surviving family and students of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. Considered by many as the father of modern yoga, the life and influence of Krishnamacharya is examined by Schmidt-Garre, whose personal interests and desire to practice yoga are also revealed with the help of the surviving masters of the discipline (Klaus Ming July 2014).
