Madame de… (1953)

France / Italy 105m, B&W
Director: Max Ophüls; Cast: Charles Boyer, Danielle Darrieux, Vittorio De Sica, Jean Debucourt, Jean Galland

Madame de...A film adaptation of the Marie Louise Lévêque de Vilmorin 1951 novel of the same name, Madame de… is a tragic love story with a dark sense of humor about a less than amorous relationship between a husband and wife and their extramarital affairs which become linked through a pair of diamond earrings. A skillfully made film, with exquisite camera work, Madame de… is a wonderfully entertaining expose of the failings of the rich and idle (Klaus Ming December 2014).
