Magic in the Moonlight is a gem of a romantic comedy for rational thinkers who can find no explanation for love. As with so many of Allen’s films, there is an intellectual underpinning to even his simplest stories, and this is no exception. Set in the late 1920s, the great illusionist, Wei Ling Soo is invited by his lifelong friend and fellow magician to debunk an American psychic that he has discovered in the south of France. Filled with charming performances, beautiful photography and a delightfully nostalgic soundtrack, Magic in the Moonlight is yet another intelligent, witty and entertaining film from the modern master of romantic comedy (Klaus Ming January 2015).
