Charade (1963)

US 113m, Colour
Director: Stanley Donen; Cast: Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Walter Matthau, James Coburn, George Kennedy, Dominique Minot, Ned Glass, Jacques Marin

CharadeCharade is a multi-genre film that combines black comedy, romance and suspense into an entertaining murder mystery. As a “whodunit” with a great supporting cast, this is a first-rate Hitchcock-like thriller, full of unexpected twists, and as a comedy, brings to mind Grant’s work from the late 1930s and early 40s. From a contemporary perspective, Charade continues to work as a parody of both genres and is a showcase for two of Hollywood’s most charismatic performers (Klaus Ming January 2015).
