The Show Off (1926)

US 82m B&W, Silent
Director: Malcolm St. Clair; Cast: Ford Sterling, Lois Wilson, Louise Brooks, Gregory Kelly

The_Show_Off_1926Love is blind for a gullible young woman who marries Aubrey Piper, a compulsive liar who is adept at inflating his self-importance and laughing at his own jokes. A family melodrama with a few comedic elements, and a bittersweet ending, The Show Off is a rather average film that is worth watching simply for the radiant presence of Louise Brooks, whose supporting performance far exceeds what is required from the “girl next door” (Klaus Ming January 2015).
