Into the Woods (2014)

US 124m, Colour
Director: Rob Marshall: Cast: Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski, Johnny Depp

into_the_woodsAdapted from the Broadway musical of the same name, Into the Woods is an excruciating musical fantasy that should have been left on the stage. As a retelling of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel, nothing of interest came from the mash-up of these fairy tales. With a script which was better off lost in the woods, this was a generic and drawn out story that was filled with some of the worst headache-inducing musical numbers ever put to film. If it were not for wanting to write this cautionary review, I would have left the theatre long before the film was over (Klaus Ming January 2015).

A fun musical that, despite taking a dark later on, still works well. Good review Klaus.
