The Heartbreak Kid (1972)

US 106m, Colour
Director: Elaine May; Cast: Charles Grodin, Cybill Shepherd, Jeannie Berlin, Eddie Albert, Audra Lindley

heartbreakkid_1972The Heartbreak Kid is a dark romantic comedy about a jealous bride with bad table manners who needs constant reassurance from her shallow and unsympathetic newlywed husband. While on their honeymoon in Miami Beach, things go from bad to worse for Lila and Lenny when Lenny meet a flirtatious blonde and explains to her, “I had my doubts in Virginia, and I was pretty sure in Georgia” that the marriage was a mistake. Filled with amusing and awkwardly embarrassing moments, Lenny’s determination never seems to get him what he wants (Klaus Ming February 2015).

An amusing movie, but can’t figure out how this made the 1001 list.
