Still Alice (2014)

US 101m, Colour
Directors: Richard Glatzer & Wash Westmoreland; Cast: Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth, Hunter Parrish

still-aliceStill Alice is a drama about a linguistics professor who is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease and the impact that it has on herself and her family. Though a thoughtful exploration of the subject, Still Alice is a slow-moving and predictable film that breaks little new ground in the area of this disease and its tragic consequences. As Alice, Julianne Moore gives a passionate performance, that is surprisingly not overly sentimental. Despite the film’s favourable reviews, this is a story that is unlikely to have a wide audience (Klaus Ming February 2015).
