Beginning her acting career on stage and television, Grace Kelly’s initial critical acclaim came from her appearance alongside Clark Gable and Ava Gardner in Mogambo (1953) which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. A short but stellar film career, Kelly was a leading lady in The Country Girl (1954), for which she won an Oscar for Best Actress. She also co-starred in notable films such as High Noon (1952), Dial M for Murder (1954), Rear Window (1954) and High Society (1956) – all by the age of 26. Retiring from acting to become Princess of Monaco, Kelly appeared in only eleven motion pictures, three of which are on the 1001 list, including: High Noon (1952), Rear Window (1954) and High Society (1956).
