Bobby Fischer Against the World is a documentary about the most enigmatic chess champion in the history of the game. Rising to prominence during the early 1970s, Fischer is presented as a symbol of democracy, and perhaps the greatest, if not the most controversial chess player who ever lived. Employing television and news footage, and commentary from the few who knew him, Garbus paints a portrait of an unlikely cold war hero who self-destructs under the pressure of his fame and from his personal anxieties and psychological neuroses (Klaus Ming April 2015).
