The-Music-RoomThe Music Room is a melancholy musical drama that explores the discord between traditional and modern cultural values. It contrasts the life of Biswambhar Roy, a formerly rich and powerful landowner whose home has fallen into ruins, against Ganguli, a prosperous neighbour who has new wealth, but no traditional status or respect. In retelling Biswambhar’s story in flashback, we discover how his obsession for holding lavish musical parties has contributed to his many misfortunes. The lengthy musical and dance performances are realistically performed and are integral components to a story which illuminates the last moments of a disappearing way of life (Klaus Ming June 2015).
