Big (1988)

US 104m, Colour
Director: Penny Marshall; Cast: Tom Hanks, Elizabeth Perkins, Robert Loggia, John Heard

big-1988Big is a sweet, albeit somewhat disturbing romantic comedy, about a 13-year-old boy who ages overnight after making a wish to a mechanical arcade fortune-teller. Distressed, Josh runs away from home, and with the help of his best friend, finds a job at a toy company, where his child’s point of view gets him noticed by more than the company’s owner. Seeking out the machine to transform himself back, he “reassures” his mother by pretending to be the kidnapper responsible for his disappearance. Despite the potentially dark elements of this story, it is Hank’s ability to convincingly play a kid which makes this film work (Klaus Ming June 2015).

Despite the, yes, disturbing pedophilic element I love this movie. It is such a classic.
