Carole Lombard (1908 – 1942)

Carole_LombardStraddling both the silent and sound film eras, Lombard was a highly successful Hollywood actress who is best known for her portrayal of energetic characters in screwball comedies of the 1930s. Though dead at the age of 33 as a result of a plane crash, Lombard’s short film career was nevertheless prolific with 55 feature films to her credit. Nominated for an Academy Award in My Man Godfrey (1936), two of her films appear on the 1001 list, including: My Man Godfrey (1936) and To Be or Not to Be (1942).
