mysteries of the organismMysteries of the Organism is a surreal hippie satire on sexuality and politics that begins as a documentary about the pseudo-scientific research of Wilhelm Reich, an Austrian psychoanalyst who argued that neuroses are based on socioeconomic and sexual conditions and that fascism was a symptom of sexual repression. Abandoning the strict documentary format, the film becomes a largely incoherent montage of fictional and historical imagery that espouse the benefits of free love. Perhaps shocking in its day Mysteries of the Organism is a bizarre cold war relic of subversive cinema (Klaus Ming June 2015).
