Killing Them Softly (2012)

US 97m, Colour
Director: Andrew Dominik; Cast: Brad Pitt, Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Richard Jenkins, James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta, Sam Shepard

Killing-Them-SoftlyA film-noir styled gangster film, Killing Them Softly is a slowly paced drama about Jackie Cogan, a professional hit man with a conscience. Preferring to kill his mark without warning, and from a distance, Cogan explains that he likes to keep things impersonal, so as to minimize his victim’s fear and suffering. His latest contract, however, gets personal and threatens to complicate his work. Despite an interesting plot and strong performances, this dialogue-driven drama fails to link the story in any meaningful manner to its economic and political commentary (Klaus Ming July 2015).
