strange_norellJonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is a marvelously imaginative seven part television miniseries set in England during the early 19th century in which the practice of magic is rediscovered and put to use during the Napoleonic wars. Taking on a younger apprentice, the older, wiser and well-read Mr. Norrell has plans to reestablish magic as a respectable profession in modern England. A quick learner, the impulsive and inquisitive Strange is seconded by the government to help with the war effort against France. Set on divergent paths in the ways in which they practice magic, Strange and Norrell become adversaries in this dark complex and well-written historical fantasy (Klaus Ming August 2015).
