Beltracchi – Die Kunst der Fälschung (2014)

Germany 97m, Colour
Director: Arne Birkenstock; Cast: Wolfgang Beltracchi, Helene Beltracchi, Henrik Hanstein, James Roundell, Monsieur Ommeslaghe, Madame Ommeslaghe, Sofia Komarova, Niklas Maak, René Allonge , Henry Keazor

BeltracchiThe Art of Forgery is an intriguing documentary about the crimes of Wolfgang Beltracchi – a forthright and oddly charming artist who was convicted of forgery related to 14 paintings that sold for over 40 million dollars. Though vilified by the art world, it is suggested that the acceptance of his forgeries was driven by greed as much as appreciation and that aesthetics have little to do with the value of the objects of his trade. More than exposing Beltracchi’s methods and motivations, this is a fascinating film which explores the real value of art (Klaus Ming December 2015).

Have you seen F for Fake? Sounds somewhat similar.

(If you haven’t seen it, I very much recommend it, by the way: http://u-town.com/collins/?p=2230.)
