One-Eyed Jacks (1961)

US 141m, Colour
Director: Marlon Brando; Cast: Marlon Brando, Karl Malden, Katy Jurado, Pina Pellicer, Ben Johnson, Slim Pickens

oneeyedjacksAn epic western, and forerunner to Sergio Leone’s more widely known films, One-Eyed Jacks is the story of a Rio, a womanizing bank robber who seeks vengeance against his former partner who gave him up to the authorities. Five years later, Rio finds himself caught between the love of Mexican woman, his new gang, and his desire for revenge. A beautifully photographed film, the camera lingers on Brando as he ruminates over his often quietly murmured but colourful dialogue (Klaus Ming December 2015).
