In a career that spanned five decades, Burt Lancaster appeared in over 75 films and was nominated for four Academy Awards, and winning Best Actor in for his portrayal of a charismatic con man in Elmer Gantry (1960). A handsome and versatile actor who could play a range of roles, Lancaster’s first film, The Killers (1946) was one of six films that appears on the 1001 list. The others include: Sweet Smell of Success (1957), Gunfight at the OK Corral (1957), Il Gattopardo (1963), Novecento (1976) and Atlantic City (1980) (Klaus Ming December 2015).
