Director: David Fincher; Cast: Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgård, Steven Berkoff, Robin Wright, Yorick van Wageningen, Joely Richardson, Geraldine James
As the American adaptation of the Stieg Larsson novel of the same name, Fincher’s film closely resembles the earlier Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009). As a business proposition, the making of an English dialogue version was a financial success, and as an adaptation of the book, it is an excellent film. Like Noomi Rapace’s performance in the original, Rooney Mara is also outstanding in the role of Lisbeth, the damaged and emotionally distraught young woman whose own story would have been sufficient as the basis for an entire movie (Klaus Ming December 2015).
