Mary Poppins (1964)

US 139m, Colour
Director: Robert Stevenson; Cast: Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, David Tomlinson, Glynis Johns

marypoppinsSet in early 20th century London, Mary Poppins is an imaginative musical fantasy based on the P. L. Travers book series of the same name. Combining live action and Disney animation with perfectly sentimental songs performed by Andrews and Van Dyke, Mary Poppins is a masterful children’s movie about a magical nanny who looks after a troubled family. As a child of the 1960s, I also have a nostalgic connection to Marry Poppins, as it is the first film that I recall seeing in the theater (Klaus Ming January 2016).
