Rita Hayworth was an actress and a dancer whose career spanned six decades and included over 60 films. A screen idol and 1940s pin-up girl, Hayworth’s first major film role was in Only Angels Have Wings (1939). She is perhaps best known for her role in Gilda (1946) as a sultry femme-fatale, and despite her widespread appeal, was never nominated for an Academy Award. Three of her films appear on the 1001 list, including: Only Angels Have Wings (1939), Gilda (1946), The Lady from Shanghai (1948) (Klaus Ming January 2016).
