Sicario (2015)

US 121m, Colour
Director: Denis Villeneuve; Cast: Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Victor Garber

sicarioSicario is a violent crime thriller about dark operations within the US Government that are aimed at disrupting a Mexican drug cartel. An aggressive gritty movie, the plot centers on Kate, a young FBI agent who is quickly overwhelmed by the no-holds-barred methods of her new employer. Despite the film’s focus on Kate, it is the film’s subplot, that involves del Toro’s dark menacing character, which is most interesting.  Despite some obvious plot holes which allow the “good guys” access to the cartel chief, Sicario is a suspenseful and entertaining film (Klaus Ming January 2016).
