Sophia Loren

Born: Sofia Villani Scicolone
September 20, 1934

sophia_lorenSophia Loren is an Italian film actress whose career has spanned seven decades. Loren’s acting career began in the early 1950s, and she is one of the few surviving AFI screen legends in 2016. Winning an Academy Award for Best Actress in 1962 for La Ciociara (1960), her first Oscar was notable not only for her performance, but for the fact that it was the first time that a foreign language performance was recognized by the Academy. Though none of her films appear on the 1001 list, she also received a nomination for best actress in Marriage Italian-Style (1964), an Honorary Academy Award in 1991, and the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievements in 1995 (Klaus Ming January 2016).

I’d never heard of her until I saw a picture of her on imgur one day. Blew my mind, and replaced Gina Gershon as my Hollywood heartthrob!
