The Big Short (2015)

US 130m, Colour
Director: Adam McKay; Cast: Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt

big-shortThe Big Short is a biographical drama about the major players involved in the 2007-08 collapse of the US housing market and the ensuing global financial crisis. As an unlikely subject for a popular Hollywood film, McKay cleverly injects numerous dark comedic elements to what is otherwise a tragic story for millions who lost their homes, savings, and lives in the frenzy of greed and fraud perpetuated by a banking system which apparently has changed little since the collapse. In telling this story, the Big Short brilliantly succeeds in explaining the near unexplainable (Klaus Ming January 2016).
